Along with our partners at AgeUK, we are delighted to start the search for volunteers!
Reach is a brand new service being piloted by AgeUK Shropshire Telford and Wrekin with AgeUK Herefordshire & Worcestershire, in partnership with SAND.
It is a tele-friending service run specifically for people who are LGBT+ and over 50, offering a weekly call from a trained volunteer for anyone that would like some regular contact.
This idea grew out of an awareness that many of us, can start to feel increasingly isolated as we age, not to mention with the effects of the pandemic. During the last year many new services, like telephone companion or be-friending lines have been set up in response. Sadly, many in our community feel that mainstream services are not really for them.
AgeUK in these two regions recognise this and now want to offer a service that is visible and targeted to ensure that its services really are inclusive.
Would you like to be part of this exciting new service? It will require a weekly commitment and comes with get the usual AgeUK volunteer training and support along with added LGBT+ Awareness Training from SAND.
